Happy New Year!

“I hope he’s better than the guy who just got out!” says the bruised, battered, figure of the World as he approaches a distinctly surly-looking 1938. (Peterborough Examiner, December 31st, 1937)

First, a blog scheduling note: our look at the tail end of 1937 will be along in the next couple of days, and next week we should be back to the regular Wednesday schedule.

However, the cartoon above should give you at least a hint of what Peterborians of ’37 thought of the outgoing year.  Why had 1937 been such a downer in the city?  All will be revealed.

In the meantime, here’s wishing you all a very Happy new Year!  All the best in 2016, and thank you very much for reading!
